WHO IS JOSH A. KREYDATUS?

Life and education:

I am originally from Auburn, NY, but also have lived in Boston, San Francisco, and Portland, Oregon. I possess both a Bachelor of Arts and an Associate of Applied Science Nursing degree. Currently, I work as a Registered Nurse.

Early music history and education:

I was not raised in a musical family, but my childhood years were marked by a strong desire to create, sing, and hum. Like most kids, I learned to play "by ear". By the age of 12, I played the trumpet with the school's concert and marching band. At age 16, I took up independent study of both piano and composition and also served as a piano accompanist for a short time with the Auburn High School Chamber Choir under the direction and guidance of Stephen A. Stomps.  Also, I served as a pit musician in the Auburn High School Vanguard Marching Band. After high school, I discovered digital audio recording software, such as Sonic Foundry Acid Pro, which marked my foray into the world of home recording.  Using both Acid Pro software and an Equinox workstation keyboard, I composed and recorded a demo of epic RPG-style music collectively called Into The Fray, which you can access in the Playlists section in my Soundcloud profile.

In 2003, I relocated to Boston, MA (age 22) where I not only continued my independent study of music but also honed my craft of composing music with MIDI-based recording software, primarily Cakewalk Sonar.  While living in Boston, I had the privilege of collaborating with some fine musicians, most of whom were students at Berklee College of Music. Additionally, I released my first album PIANOLOGY (2004) and an E.P Semblance (2009), both of which can be accessed in the Discography section of my website.

Later music history and education:

I would consider myself to be largely self-taught, having cultivated a strong intuitive understanding of music on my own.  My formal music education began later in life at the City College of San Francisco (2010-13).  I transferred to Portland State University in Portland, Oregon (2014-2018) where I studied Music Theory with Dr. Bonnie Miksch and Dr. Brad Hansen.   Also, I studied Composition for a short while under the tutelage of Professor Renée Favand-See. During the last stretch of my tenure in Portland, Oregon, I released an album called Solivigant (2018), which also can be found in the Discography section of my website.

To this date, my portfolio is a broad, eclectic, loosely organized collection of both personal and commercial works.  Commercial works include Google (Social Star, 2010), WordHue (Beardy Software, 2015).  Non-commercial work includes various student and independent filmmaker projects.

Lastly, I would consider my passion to be Program music, but my specialty to be Production music, specifically hybrid forms of Neo-Classical and Electronic-style music. However, over the past 17 years, I've gone through various music phases, explored a variety of genres, and composed music in many different styles.
